Professional Development Workshops

CREATE Council’s Professional Development Workshop Series supports the professional development of artists and organizations in our community through free workshops.

Each workshop is led by a different expert and will cover topics including marketing best practices, creating promotional materials, finances and more! This program is made with the support of the SCR (Statewide Community Regrant) program through the New York State Council on the Arts which grants annual awards for Community Projects, Art Education Projects, and Individual Artist Commissions.

Thinking of applying directly to the New York State Council on the Arts? This NYSCA readiness seminar will go over NYSCA applications and guidelines to see if it’s the right fit for you or your organization. A representative from NYSCA will join the meeting to answer all your questions.

Support for Your Art: Grants, Fundraising, and Building Your Network

Join writer, artist, and consultant Andrea Kleine to learn about different kinds of funding opportunities for your art. In this workshop, we will go over resources that are a good match, grant applications, writing about your work, and how to build the support you need. We will also talk about Create Council’s upcoming SCR grant and we’ll leave time for a Q&A.

Budget Basics

Join our Grants Coordinator Richard Royer for a practical introduction to budget basics for artists. This workshop will cover how to build a clear, realistic project budget; identify common income and expense categories; and use simple strategies to make your budget support your project goals. Participants will have time to ask questions and work in small breakout groups on their own project budgets. While the SCR Grant Application Budget Form will be used as a working template, artists at any stage of a project—and those preparing budgets for other opportunities—are welcome.

Want someone to break down the application for you and get you started writing? This session is for you! Join us for a hands-on, in-person workshop focusing on Create Council’s SCR grant applications. Artist, grant writer, and consultant Andrea Kleine will walk you through the application and help you write a rough draft of your proposal.
