Thanks to the support of a Columbia County donor, The Corning Museum GlassBarge made a special one-day port-of-call at Catskill/Hudson on Tuesday, June 19, as part of its summer-long voyage up the Hudson River and across the Erie Canal. GlassBarge, featured free live glassblowing demonstrations by Museum glassmakers, at Historic Catskill Point to a sold out audience (as it did in Brooklyn and Kingston!).
GlassBarge commemorates the 150th anniversary of the Brooklyn Flint Glass Company-now known as Corning Incorporated-relocating to Corning via the New York waterways by canal barge. In celebration of this pivotal journey, CMoG is recreating the voyage with GlassBarge-a 30’ x 80’ canal barge equipped with CMoG’s patented all-electric glassmaking equipment. In addition to sharing the story of glassmaking in Corning, the GlassBarge tour emphasizes the continued role of New York’s waterways in shaping the state’s industry, culture, and community. Greene County Council on the Arts participated at the Catskill Historic Point by offering a free bead necklace making workshop with materials generously donated by The Corning Museum of Glass. Pictured are some very happy artists!
