Dina Bursztyn was born in Mendoza, Argentina and graduated from the University of Cordoba (Cordoba, Argentina) with a degree in Latino American Literature. She moved to NYC in the 70s, having fled the military dictatorships in Argentina. Shortly after arriving in NY she began working in ceramics, which would remain a life-long passion. She was a self-taught visual artist and a writer. She worked in various media: ceramic sculpture, painting, mixed media, artist’s books and public art. Her work has been shown extensively in the US as well as abroad and she was awarded numerous public art commissions, among others, by NYC MTA’s Arts & Design, NYC Percent for the Arts and the Public Art Fund, in addition to numerous grants and residencies. In 2003 she moved to Catskill with her wife Julie Chase. They founded the Open Studio, a storefront gallery on Main Street in Catskill, in 2004.
