Lila Blue, Philip Roebuck & Saskia Lane

Saturday, Dec. 9, 7pm

PHILLIP ROEBUCK is a singer/songwriter from Virginia, who plays resonator guitar and percussion at the same time. The songs cover a wide spectrum of roots & folk music — blues, gospel, old time & bluegrass, sea shanties, and of course some tearjerkers. Dancing shoes encouraged!

LILA BLUE (they/she) is a twenty-three year old non-binary and queer folk musician, singer-songwriter, playwright and performer based out of Brooklyn. They have been performing and composing professionally since early childhood in communally devised theater with the likes of Bread and Puppet Theater and the Lake Lucille Chekhov Project, as well as developing a solo music career in the Folk and Americana circles. Their projects navigate themes of grief, joy, intergenerational trauma, rage, queerness and collisions with divine and haunted spirits, stemming from their own intuitive practices (which include writing in their sleep).
….They have released 3 LP’s, 2 EP’s, and have composed music for film and television, most notably for MTV and Lifetime. They are currently developing an original musical about the life and work of artist Hilma af Klint, and their fourth LP, “Sweet Pea” is out November 10th.

Brooklyn-based SASKIA LANE is a Juilliard-trained bassist, composer, performer, puppet maker and educator whose work spans many genres. A classically-trained musician with a strong grounding in jazz, Saskia tours internationally playing everything from rock and folk to R&B and klezmer. She has shared the stage with a wide variety of artists, from Jay-Z and Beyonce to Marc Ribot and the Kronos Quartet.

Blue and Roebuck met in 2011 at the Lake Lucille Chekhov Project, and have been playing together ever since, accompanying each other and composing songs that some have called “poetry wed to music”. For their show at TSL, the group will be playing songs from their own repertoires, as well as a bevy of tunes they’ve made in collaboration. It’s a night of music you will not want to miss!

Tickets: $25 TSL members / $30 general
