Join internationally accomplished artists and longtime friends Joe DiMaggio, JoAnne Kalish, and Dennis Wheeler for an interactive discussion exploring creativity: how to find it, how to foster it, and how to express it. The trio discuss their artistic careers, methods, and ideologies, while answering questions, providing insight, and inspiring attendees in the creation and development of their own work.
Attendees of the program will receive a complementary poster by Joe DiMaggio and a teaching recording for personal use.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
“Joe DiMaggio is one of the greatest photographers in America” – William Shatner
Joe DiMaggio is an internationally acclaimed photographer/artist who has shot the likes of William Shatner, Paul Newman, and Mike Tyson, to name a few. His portraits have been featured in Life, Time, and many of the world’s most prestigious advertising agencies. DiMaggio is well known for his portrait of heavyweight boxer Mike Tyson, as well as his 1982 Cooney vs Holmes knock out cover for Sports Illustrated.
JoAnne Kalish is an internationally known photographer/artist who has contributed to various publications includingTime, Sports Illustrated, and Art & Antiques Magazine. Kalish is the first female photographer to ever be hired by Sports Illustrated. Her first photo for the publication was a near shunt involving race car driver Mario Andretti and James Hunt at the Long Beach Grand Prix. JoAnne has led American Photo/Popular Photography Mentor Series Workshops throughout the country. Her portrait of artist Will Barnet, awarded the Medal of Arts in 2012, is now part of the permanent collection in the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC.
Graphic designer and artist Dennis Wheeler has designed for covers of Time, Fortune, and Life magazines. Wheeler has designed 40 covers for Time, 7 of which are in the collection of the National Portrait Gallery, Smithsonian Institute, Washington, D.C. Five of his posters for Life magazine are in the permanent collection of Design and Architecture, Museum of Modern Art, New York. Wheeler studied at Pratt Institute and the Art Students League the best of both worlds.
