Shanekia McIntosh Reading
Hudson-based poet and artist Shanekia McIntosh is to read from her first full-length poetry collection, “A New Sense of Luxury,” on April 19, 2025 at CREATE.
McIntosh, whose work spans poetry, performance, and installation, has been a dynamic presence in the Hudson Valley arts scene. From large-scale poetic interventions at public sites like the Hudson Amtrak Station and Catskill Community Theater to exhibitions at institutions such as the New Museum and NY Live Arts, her work blends language and space in transformative ways.
As part of the book’s launch, McIntosh is sharing a special poetic intervention via Mid-Hudson Cablevision Channel 11, featuring the first verse of A New Sense of Luxury—a glimpse into the powerful themes explored in this new collection.
Published by Eureka! Press, a Kingston-based small press centering QTBIPOC artists and writers, A New Sense of Luxury follows McIntosh’s acclaimed chapbook Spiral as Ritual.
“A New Sense of Luxury” ( @eurekapressny ) is a sharp and thought-provoking exploration of mass consumption. Like holding a mirror to oneself, McIntosh forces the reader to confront the space they have in a world filled with corporate greed and digital escapism.
