“Winds of Change”
Saturday, June 8, 4pm
Works by Mozart, Silver, Beethoven, Glière, Shakespeare and more
Art gives meaning to our lives and helps us understand the world. When we view paintings, hear music, are moved by a lyrical turn of phrase or gasp at a dancer’s leap, it is because we are affected by visions or sounds that move us emotionally. In fact, we are often seeking exposure to something beyond our daily lives – a different or expanded view of the world.
Jazz and Classics for Change had this expansion in mind when they put together the upcoming concert Winds of Change next Saturday, June 8th. Along with the melodic sounds of a quartet of woodwind instruments and piano, the event includes readings by Australian actor John McManus and art work by Brian Shea, an architect and composer. The afternoon is meant to create a sense of magic when music, poetry and the visual arts come together.
Gili Melamed-Lev, co-founder of JCFC, tries to present variety to the audience. “All the arts celebrate the human spirit,” she says. “The pieces being read and the art on display, will connect to the music in an organic way. Together, they create an artistic whole.”
Selections for the afternoon include a contemporary work, Subway Sunset, by local composer Sheila Silver, as well as pieces by Mozart, Beethoven and Gliere. A stellar group of musicians is featured: Eli Eban – clarinet, Gili Sharett – bassoon, Roni Gal-Ed – oboe, Liri Ronen – French horn and Melamed-Lev on piano
