CENTENNIAL: SHE (October 8 – November 11, 2017)

In celebration of the 100 year anniversary of women’s right to vote (November 6, 2017) in New York, GCCA is dedicating an entire exhibit to the theme of women’s/human/LGBTQ rights and empowerment.

What does it mean for women to have had the right to vote for 100 years? Why is voting important? Where are women now in terms of their rights? How far have women come? What do women still need to achieve in terms of civil, social, economic, political rights? How did the women’s suffrage movement affect other equality movements like the civil rights movement, LGTBQ and other minority rights? What does it mean to be referred to as “she” in this day and age?

The exhibit will feature modern artwork related to these themes, along with six panels of historical context of the suffragette movement (and other historical material) which is being generously provided to GCCA by the New York State Museum.

CENTENNIAL: SHE is sponsored by Columbia Memorial Health, specializing in health services for every woman, in every stage of life.
