Opening Reception: Sat, Aug 16th 4-6PM
Artist talk by Jim Ebersole: Sat, Aug 16th 3-4PM
Jim Ebersole is a painter of landscape and architectural subjects, living in Catskill, NY. Much of his work is done outdoors, painting and drawing directly from his subjects. His work is influenced by 19th and 20th century artists such as Hopper, Turner, Corot and painters of the Hudson River School. Prior to moving to Catskill, Jim lived in Brooklyn for over forty years, where his work focused on the urban environment and aging industrial subjects. He made frequent trips to places like the Hudson Valley and White Mountains to paint. In recent years, several trips to France have allowed Jim to draw and paint medieval architecture, and to study art by visiting museums there. In 2017 and again in 2025, the painter Alex Katz bought a number of Jim’s plein air paintings, some of which have since been placed in museum collections by the Alex Katz Foundation.Jim’s work is held by the Portland Museum of Art in Portland, Maine; the Tang Teaching Museum in Saratoga, NY; and the University Museum of Contemporary Art at UMASS Amherst.
